Government is NO expert when it comes to the Gulf Coast

What’s worse (all things considered)…..a manmade oil spill or one from good ‘ole mother nature?

As a couple of those bad terrible “big oil” guys (both of which are completely broke mind you) we will give you a few bits of wisdom from our heads.

I’ve personally never worked overseas but I have drilled many wells onshore in the Rock Mountains.  Many of those are only 5000 feet or less and we have some problems with those.  I can’t even imagine what goes on offshore except of course what I have learned from working with other engineers who have worked on offshore rigs for many years and some their entire careers.  Experts if you will.

I do know that the safety systems redundancy on offshore rigs is quite incredible.  These billion dollar pieces of equipment are made to not fail.  If one thing might think about failing they have many other ways to correct that.

And I can tell you there have been some rigs that I’ve sat on where the equipment alone would scare you.  And mix that with your poor greenie rig hands and the entire safety factor get’s gruesome.  But with the supreme oversight we give, we get the job done…You have to know your equipment and your personnel.  Then you make adjustments and watch the weaker links…If too weak…you fire them..or replace them.

I might send you on to a couple articles that I have read in the past weeks since April 20th when this rig in the gulf ‘exploded’.  This one is quite interesting.  Really makes you (if you don’t already) think about what happens within nature completely without mans help.  Natural seeps occur all over the ocean floor.  Mother nature is an amazing lady.  She cleans up after herself and she cleans up after us dirty old humans…Thank God for her.

Directly from the article:

“Studies have shown that the natural seeps are equivalent to the release of about two supertankers a year,” he said. “What that does is establish a huge population of bio-organisms.”

The jury is not in yet as far as the investigation goes so time will tell what actually happened that day but I think that to jump  to conclusions (and especially for it to be done by government officials who know nothing about the energy business at all) is asinine and politically motivated.

BP has been there since day one paying millions and millions of dollars daily to do everything they can thus far.   And watching c-span of course every company official just points the finger of blame on somebody else.  The testimony was tough to watch the day that BP, Transocean, and Halliburton were before Barbara Boxer …..oh wait….I mean, Mrs. Senator Boxer…..and her committee.

Boxer eluded to the fact that she is by far much more of an expert than any of these company men.  Ha!  Please…..spare me.  It was so obvious by her estranged questions that she has NO idea about anything that goes on in the oil business.  Bye Bye Barbara Boxer…No more Boxer after November..Please do not cry for her, we will not…Might be like one big tea party extravaganza and Pelosi will be on same wagon..

This of course (at a time like this) is not good for the industry in more ways than one.  That was illustrated to me by a quote from our lovely Governor B.S. Schweitzer yesterday as he passed through Billings, MT.

And I quote:  “I think that the president of the United States ought to seize the assets of British Petroleum and only give them back when that entire gulf is cleaned up”

Really?  Obama seize the assets of a global oil company? Undoubtedly, BP and their contractors are at fault in this situation, but they have also been present since day one of the incident to clean it up. It has been quite a task for BP to do this, and they appear to finally be getting something done. What has the federal government done so far to help? Not much, if anything at all. And we all know that private enterprise always does a better job at any task at hand compared to the efforts of the federal government. Obama’s latest statement about the oil leak, “Just plug the damn hole”, was truly enlightening as to his mentality. (I wonder if BP had thought about “plugging the hole?” hmmm…. one of their engineers may have thought about that already Mr. Obama) but in course of good science it has to all be planned in detail and then executed expertly…Logistics is a nightmare and nothing happens overnight or even in a fortnight.  Supplies are short, services are short, people are short..

The government officials and pack of attorneys that Barack sent down there should have been put in long woolen underwear to walk the beaches to soak up some of that oil.  Talk about putting them to good use for once!  Maybe even try depends on them…ten times more absorbent..

Schweitzer also took the opportunity to take a swipe at Arizona and their new illegal immigration enforcement legislation, making a reference to Arizona not being at the conference due to “no papers”. He joins the ranks of several other Governors around the country who are oblivious to the real illegal immigration problem facing our country, but put their 2 cents into the dialogue anyway. How would Schweitzer like to have 460,000 illegal aliens in Montana, sucking up all of the public assistance, committing crimes, and contributing next to nothing? I think he would change his tune real quick.

But that of course is off subject.

So, like I’ve said before, let’s let the investigation comes to a finish before the government decides they are ultimate expert in this case.  It was just on news today a dory with eight government employees were seen throwing individual sheets of highly absorbent downey soft  paper towels into the sea..Looked more like litter process but seems to be the best the feds can do…God help us all..

Mop up Environmental Nut Jobs

Ahhhhh, well thankfully it’s about 70 degrees and sunny out.  Had it been snowing, windy, and freezing today’s rally would not have been quite as amusing and fun for us.

This morning I receive a secret tip from a Billings resident that the Sierra Club and members of the ‘Clean Energy Only’ Clubs in Billings were to rally outside of Congressman Rehberg’s office at high noon (hey, I thought only tea partiers rallied at high noon…..).  Here is the message that I found then off facebook to give me all the details I needed to quickly rally 50 of our finest to show support against their ploy to shut down all oil, gas, and coal development in the United States and offshore:

The spill in the Gulf of Mexico is driving home the point now more than ever: we need to move away from dirty fuels and we need to start now. The scale of this disaster is almost unimaginable as 200,000 gallons of crude are spewing out per day, ruining the rich fishing waters and destroying the environment and tourist economy in the Gulf. If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere.

We need to make sure that BP is held accountable, and that the politicians who screamed “Drill, baby, drill” understand that their actions have led to the new catch phrase: “Spill, baby, spill!” Dennis Rehberg has been an adamant supporter of offshore drilling, now Sierra Club-Billings is going to give him a little taste of what it looks like.

Join us at Rehberg’s Office on 1201 Grand this Friday, May 14th to help stage a mock oil spill and clean up. I’m bringing the “oil”, the hazmat suits, and the poor little critters who ended up in the spill. You bring yourselves, your friends, and your righteous indignation. We’ll stage the spill in front of the office on the sidewalk, and then we’ll go inside and see if the staff can tell us how Denny plans to make sure that it is BP, not the tax payers who clean up this mess.

Remember, this is not about elections or candidates, this is about bad policy that Rehberg has supported during his many years in office, so please refrain from any political activity at the the rally.

We need your support. The fisherman and business owners in the Gulf need you to stand in solidarity. Let’s give it to them Billings!

First of all, they didn’t have ‘hazmat suits’.  They had cheap painting suits which even though not the real deal had to be horribly warm in this weather!  So, I give them an A+ for burning up outside on the sidewalk.

Second of all, I’m sure glad they were smart enough to not use real oil for their mock oil spill.  I mean, you never know with these people.   They never seem to be the brightest crayon in the box.  They did however use that roll of stuff you place in your garden underneath the seeds.  Whatever it’s called, I have no idea.

Lastly, they lay stuffed animal from the goodwill store on the roll of black “oil”.  All sounds great for ‘mock oil spill’ right?  Except the only stuffed animals that the goodwill had today were dinosaurs and penguins.  Hmmmmm…..think I missed the memo where dinosaurs still roamed the gulf coast.  Same said for penguins…..

They were obnoxious as usual.  Screaming things that made no sense.  Chanting others which I dare not repeat in text.  Carrying signs which were not legible.  But the couple we could make out said things like “SPILL BABY SPILL” “HONK FOR THE OIL SPILL” “CLEAN ENERGY FOR ALL” and “STOP THE DRILLING”

I might point out the sign which reads “animals dying in oil”.  The turtles and dolphin which have washed ashore have had no traces of oil.  So far fishing companies have been blamed for leaving their nets out in the water.  No reason to agree it’s a good thing, but you must place blame on those who deserve it.  Also, I might add, she needed to know how to spell dying and we are too honest to lie to her so that is why it’s spelled correctly.

I hate to be too mean to people like that as they just do not understand why there are there.  One girl walked up to me and was wondering whose side I was on.  As though my tea party patriot’s sign was not enough?  She then told me she was confused as to what my sign meant.  Ahhhhh, the left.

'drill baby drill' much more tasteful than 'spill baby spill'

TEA Party members were standing at the front of the block and so as cars drove by, we of course had an enormous number of cars who honked at us.  But I was then informed by the enviro wacko that all those vehicles were in fact honking at them.  Asked why he would assume that?  Well, I got the answer I figured I’d get “because we are the only ones out here with a ‘honk’ sign.  Hahahahaha, right…..I knew it. The ‘honk’ sign which was hidden behind many tea partiers was what was drawing the attention.  Silly me.

We outnumbered them, we outstood them.  Ended like that.  Only being paid for 1 hour of work, they all barely stood even that long.  So, we packed up and were off to our regular daily lives.

TEA party outnumbered them 5 to 1.

Never ceases to amuse me the way that the leftist Obama goons act.  It’s always the same, but never a dull moment.

Viva la Electione

From the perspective of the tea party-Montana Shrugged, we usually travel across the state to encourage the elected officials in Montana stay on their toes.  Saturday night we didn’t have to travel any place except down the road to the Montana Convention Center at the Holiday Inn.

The Yellowstone County Lincoln-Reagan Dinner was the event of the weekend for the GOPers.

Many elected reps as well as candidates streamed into door including those for state house and senate, US congress, and other county positions such as county attorney, commissioner, clerk and recorder,  judge candidates for new district court and finally the  Supreme Court of Montana.

It was wonderful to see that we have so many choices of real conservatives on our ballet this election.

It was great to see so many great candidates running for office and the energy behind them from everyone who was at the event Saturday night! On to November!  Victory is in sight for the Tea Party and victory for the new conservative GOP movements.  God Bless America.

Speakers for the evening started with Supreme court candidates, 2 of which showed up to speak.  Judges are difficult to make a decision on.  They run without party affiliation so you must do your research before voting.

Then the night moved on to candidates for US Congress.  All 3 republicans were there to give their comments on why they are running and why they believe they are best candidate for job.  AJ Otjen followed Mark French and ended with Congressman Denny Rehberg who gave a great heartwarming narrative.

Members of Crow Nation TEA party get photo-op with their congressman, Denny Rehberg.

A.J. Otjen, who is challenging Congressman Denny Rehberg from the left classifies herself as a Teddy Roosevelt Conservative (Socialist) while Mark French, who is challenging Denny from the right considers himself a Constitutional Republican(Libertarian)?

AJ was quoted as saying “Mark French focuses on religion, when I’m focusing on reality.”

What comes to your mind when you hear the word French?

The Eiffel Tower?  Unjustified snobbery?  Overrated wines?  A style of kissing?  Tolerating your wife but loving your mistress?  Guillotines?  Pommes des frites?  Quick surrender whenever war breaks out?

Mark French, challenging Congressman Denny Rehberg in the Republican Primary, says he represents none of those things.  In fact, he says the most American thing you can do in the June Primary is to vote for French.

French had a very awkward speech.  He repeatedly asked those veterans in the audience to look their dead comrades in the eyes.  I’m no veteran but I could feel the tension in the room as the Verterans peared around the room and then back at French probably wondering…..’can we move on to next subject’?

Members of Crow Nation with Congressman Rehberg.....and Eric, who brought them together to speak.

I understand where he might have been coming from ‘I fight for freedom, not socialism’ but I think there could have been a more classy way to talk about that than ‘look your dead comrades in the eyes….’

Montana Shrugged has worked with Rehberg a lot in the past and as Rehberg gave his five minute summary he picked on us in the crowd as he thanked the Olsen’s for all of their emails, of course, not all were positive!

Check one…..we beat up on(educate) all of our politicians.  Republican or not, they all need to stay on their toes.  They need to be sure they vote constitutionally and Denny Rehberg has definitely made some questionable votes in the past.  But, I might point out that he is up voting close to Ron Paul since we started holding his feet to the fire.  WE thank Denny Rehberg for listening and communicating with us.

We find that it takes the effort of the voters to question the actions  of the Congressmen and Senators on how they would want them to vote…..we need to hold them accountable!  Keep the pressure on them at all times…

Keynote was MT house rep Krayton Kerns (district 58).  He is always fun to listen to.  He has funny stories of how he compares politics to being a cow doctor.

Krayton Kerns comparing politics to being a cow doctor during his keynote speech at LRDD, 2010

Since I’m very much in politics I’ve heard Kerns speak on multiple occasions so I’d heard most of the stories he told.  But I might add that they never get old, always funny!  The audience took well to him.  It was great to laugh for a moment.  No matter how his stories come back to the fall of our republic…..puts a twist on how you look at what is going on both nationally and home in Montana.

Was a great event to network with the conservative candidates running for office in June and November though I might admit I already knew them all.  Guess that is what happens when you are in the middle of the political circle.

So, I’ll end with, don’t forget to vote in the June primary and of course, do your research!  We can’t afford to elect the ‘wrong’ folks!  And then it is on to victory in November….Viva la Electione….

Tester Wilderness bill….What a joke.

I just went to a Conservation Voter meeting today to hear about Tester Wilderness bill….What a joke..

And what a room full of idiots…Wilderness societies, conservation groups, trout unlimited, Northern Plains resource council, BLM, USFS, League of Women Voters, Rim Country Land Institute, few tea partiers, James Knox, Barry Usher……Needless to say we were outnumbered.

Of course Tester bunch was for bill.  Said it might be lumped in with an unknown major land bill??  Scary?

Wilderness group was a bit hesitant but admitted it would work for them.

Trout Unlimited liked it …They said wilderness would help bolster elk herds?

Forest Service areas supposedly onboard but have no staff…

Funds are not in place for anything in the bill.

Trigger language asked for by Rehberg an absolute no go….

I made final stand on all issues for tea party and normal folk….

1. WE already have too much wilderness

2. We have been continually locked our of our forests for over forty years.

3. Wilderness will not help elk herds, eradication of wolves will.

4. Forest service needs to be multiple use and easy access by public.

5. We believe the bill should be scrapped.

I urge you to contact Senator Tester and voice your concerns.

Senator Jon Tester

defeat the rising socialist tide

Dear Patriots,

What is happening in our country at this time is nothing short of phenomenal.  On one hand we have a President, Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader who are determined to impose their radical, parental-leftist, social experiment on the American people by any means necessary.  On the other we find an unprecedented uprising of popular resistance to these astonishingly unconstitutional measures.  Within this uprising we find moms and dads, friends and neighbors, many who have never been involved in the political process before, out in front leading the charge for a return to the values of fiscal responsibility and limited government.  Even though recent events have paid witness to the travesty that is the passage of the health-care takeover and the socialization of the student loan industry, there is still cause for hope.  These reprehensible encroachments on liberty and the deplorable and corrupt process by which these measures were passed have united us all; crystallizing us in our vehement opposition to Obama’s new vision for America.

If we can maintain our current momentum and energy, we are just seven months away from putting an end to Nancy Pelosi’s iron rule of the House of Representatives.  Unfortunately, with the election season comes the possibility of infighting within our coalition; exactly the type of infighting that must be avoided if we ever hope to be successful in derailing the leftist machine that is now running Washington,  D.C.  I am not here to endorse a candidate or take sides in the ongoing primary election that we are now engaged in.  However, I would like to clear up a few misstatements that have been flying around in the back corners of our conservative coalition; I have had the privileged of meeting and working with our current Congressman, Denny Rehberg, on several occasions.  I have also been in constant communication with his staff on many issues with current and pending legislations.

Being naturally leery of all contemporary politicians, I have put a great deal of time and effort into interviewing, researching, and getting to know exactly where Denny Rehberg stands in regards to our Constitution and the governance of our nation from a constitutional perspective.  I would like to be the first to stand up and say I am comfortable with what I have found.  In regards to the accusations against Denny and claims of unconstitutionality and irresponsibility, I would like to add a bit of perspective.  For starters let’s address the Patriot Act.  I do not support the Patriot Act and have been openly critical of the Patriot Act in many instances.  I asked Denny about his vote on the Patriot Act in person and after thorough review I have come to the conclusion that Denny is a friend on the inside of this bad legislation.

Denny has maintained since the Patriot Act was first signed into law that it must be continually monitored for both effectiveness and abuse.  While I know you would agree that it’s imperative we give law enforcement agencies the tools they need to identify and capture terrorist suspects, Denny feels that it is equally as important that we make sure Americans are being protected throughout the legal process.  He has voted to put congressional oversight provisions and additional application requirements on the provisions that many Americans are most concerned about.  He also supports requirements that Congress be required to review controversial provisions on an annual basis.  I realize this is an issue that many folks, like me, feel very strongly about.  All Denny has asked is that people reach out to him if they believe the provisions which are designed to protect Americans are not being followed or if they know of instances where law enforcement has abused them.  I think what is most important here is that the Patriot Act be reviewed as often as possible and I feel that Denny Rehberg is ensuring that this happens.

In regards to Cash for Clunkers, it is just plain false that Denny Rehberg voted for this bill. Denny flat out voted against this program and against the supplemental appropriations bill in the “Clunkers” Conference Report.  This misconception stems from Denny’s vote to give the program an extra $2 billion when it ran out of money and was about to become insolvent.  Even though this bill is yet another failed example of the federal government inserting itself where it does not belong, to not authorize supplemental funding would have robbed thousands of auto dealerships nationwide of the cash that they been promised by the government for vehicles that had already been sold.  Because of Nancy Pelosi and the Obama administration’s misguided politics, reasonable policymakers had to choose between doing nothing and letting the government screw hardworking Americans into possible bankruptcy, or holding their nose and putting a quick end to one more failed policy experiment.

Denny has publicly renounced his support for Real-ID a number of times. In fact, he has openly referred to it as one of his greatest policy mistakes. Citing demand for the approval of the 9/11 commission recommendations, Denny voted for the full implementation of those recommendations.  When the outcry and scrutiny came over the Real-ID provisions, he apologized for them and demanded they be repealed.  On the recent bailouts, Denny again voted against them.  In fact, Denny Rehberg has voted against every single bailout since the Bush years and has publicly railed against these reckless policies.  Denny has rebuked the UN as an ineffective international organization and has consistently supported measures that would ensure the sovereignty of the U.S. border, including taking a tough stance on illegal immigration and other policies that proponents of a North American Union and global government consistently push for.  People who use “earmarks” as a pejorative fail to realize that many times these same earmarks don’t add a dime to a piece of legislation and direct money that would have otherwise been given to wasteful government bureaucrats directly to useful projects in a state. Denny has been a long-time supporter of amending the U.S. Constitution to include a balanced budget provision similar to the one he introduced in the Montana Legislature.  Just recently, Denny was a signatory on a yearlong earmark moratorium.  In this time of extreme fiscal irresponsibility I believe this moratorium sends exactly the right message to the leftists running our nation—enough reckless spending.

As I said before, I am not here to pick sides or endorse candidates.  I believe that a true debate on the issues is healthy for the primary process and builds understanding across the party.  However, I feel that setting the record straight with honesty and fact is absolutely essential in this debate.  To brand Congressman Rehberg as a RINO or suggest he is lacking in “real conservative” values is borderline libelous.  We can debate about different policies from taxes to defense spending. We can debate the merits of state-run initiatives like SCHIP or the Montana high risk insurance pool.  These are all great issues for conservatives in the state to debate.  But to try and brand Denny Rehberg as a do-nothing congressman who ignores the Constitution is simply wrong.  Congressman Rehberg is a founding member of Ron Paul’s Liberty Caucus, an original co-sponsor of the Federal Reserve Transparency Act and a lifelong proponent of lower taxes, Second Amendment rights and limited government.  Having continually stood resolute for these conservative ideals, I find it hard to believe anyone would claim Rehberg lacks a strong moral and Constitutional compass.

Let’s debate the issues and come together as a coalition to defeat the rising socialist tide come November; not unfairly sling mud at one of our state’s last warriors for true conservatism. Like you, I agree that moderation in the defense of liberty is no virtue.  However, extremism without pragmatism will lead to the same hollow failure that our progressive adversaries will experience this November under the weight of our combined voices.

Now, you must all understand that I have had the pleasure living in Billings and had have almost unlimited access to Denny Rehberg to voice the concerns of the TEA Party.  I feel that our constant pressure and communications has allowed us to work with Denny on current issues.  I worry in this political world that Montana has only one hope to effect any change in DC and that is Denny Rehberg.  Our two progressive Senators are doing nothing short of treason for our country and our State.  I feel strongly that it would be a mistake to change out our conservative horseman in the middle of the stream, if you will.  Chances are good that we will see significant change in the House of Representatives and a minor change in the Senate this fall.  With Republican rule in the House, there is real potential for Denny Rehberg to be appointed to a higher position and more powerful position than he already holds.  This combined with our collective tea party input and communication should work well for the country and our State.

Now this is my opinion on this matter and at this time most of you already know how I stand…I stand in support of Denny Rehberg..

Keep The Pressure on City Council!

Several members of Montana Shrugged attended the City Council meeting held last night in Billings for their discussion on a cell phone while driving ban.

“Please keep up your email pressure on the city council…WE will keep local personal pressure on them through May.  Their intent is to pass by end of May…

Results of the City Council meeting last night resulted in the following additional details…

1.  Ad Hoc Committee unanimously agreed that this is good idea for Billings MT.

2.  Ad Hoc Committee stated the fines would be same as speeding with fees and points.

3.  Ad Hoc Committee submitted no evidence of studies or information reviewed to come to decision.

4.  Several members questioned the council as to their objectives.Council response was nil…No comment.

5.  The council members albeit a couple seemed to be confused as to why anyone would object to this regulation.

Eric explained to him the concerns that such a law violates the 4th Amendment which protects you in your person and your home.

It was explained that this seemed to be ploy to raise funds for city coffers, as the old seat belt law succeeded in doing.

The regulation as attached does not allow a person any room to touch their cell phone while driving.  Please see document below.

City Of Billings Ordinance

Eric stated that it distractions do cause accidents…i.e. cigarettes, drinks, radio dials, phones, dogs, kids, etc..

Eric related the cash cow going on in Denver…Police and Patrol were pulling over many drivers for driving 1 mph over posted speed..This was being done en masse…It was bragged about by city officials on news…Lots of speed traps were setup all around town.  The other cash cow they were employing was the rule to pull over to left lane and slow down while passing emergency vehicle.  The trap setup by the patrol and police was to use unmarked cruisers to drift in left lane such that autos could not pull over….and thus giving them a bigger ticket for not yielding to the police giving out the speeding tickets.

Eric stressed that this was his fear in Billings….He stated a better way to handle it would be to use the careless and reckless driving laws already on the books…Then in court, with the proper legal system in effect, judge, jury of peers, due process….if found guilty with preponderance of evidence that cell phone caused accident then the liable party should pay the appropriate fines and or jail time…….

Last statement by Eric was to please not vote for approval on this cell phone law…”

A sample of an email could be the following:

“I do not approve of any further rules or regulations limiting our personal freedoms, including cell phones and texting..
How many more laws and regulations does the city want to pass to limit our freedoms in the name of safety…There are already too many public safety laws that limit our freedoms…for example, giving speed tickets to unsuspecting public in the name of raising funds for a government that is already too fat and too expensive…Please start cutting the budget…and quit harassing the public and start protecting it.”

We the people are your source of revenue, does not matter if it is local, county, state or federal funds….in the case of federal funds it is deficit spending ….do you want to put your children and grandchildren further into debt?

We need to clean up our houses locally before we can clean up others…Please start with the city budgets..Thank you.

A concerned citizen working hard in downtown Billings.

Feel free to copy and paste the above couple of paragraphs to send to city council.

Thank you everyone for your support and continued stance for FREEDOM and LIBERTY.
