Patriot Act Passes House – Tea Party Republicans Oppose

The U.S. House of Representatives voted this evening to renew three provisions of the Patriot Act that are due to expire this month. The renewal passed by a vote of 275-144, extending the provisions through December 8, 2011.

Last week, the House succeeded in blocking the renewal. Twenty-six Republican members, including seven Tea Party-backed freshman members, joined Democrats in an unusual alliance opposing the law. Votes of the Tea Party freshmen were decisive because the fast-tracked bill needed a two-thirds majority to pass.

The Tea Party Republicans support the protection of Americans’ Constitutional rights from government intrusion, and their commitment demanded a vote against the bill.

Last week Representative Rehberg voted against renewal. But he later backed Republican leadership in voting for a rule change to allow passage with a simple majority, making it easier for the law to pass.  Then tonight, in a paradoxical switch, he again voted against renewal.

One objectionable provision of the Patriot Act is the so-called “roving John Doe wiretap,’’ which allows the government to obtain authority to conduct intelligence surveillance without identifying either the individual or the site to be monitored. This broad authority makes it far easier for intelligence agents to obtain search warrants. The roving wiretap provision violates search-and-seizure protections by not requiring the government to tell a judge exactly what it wants to search or seize. The government should at least have to name a particular target.

Another provision allows the government to seize “any tangible thing’’ – such as library or financial records – without having to disclose how that thing might be relevant to terrorists or terrorist activities. The government should have to show probable cause.

The third provision, the “lone wolf provision”, to be granted only in secret courts, permits surveillance of people who aren’t US citizens and who have no connection to foreign terrorist organizations. This power has never been used. It could establish a worrisome precedent if ever used. Congress should let it expire.

The Republican leadership was taken by surprise that Tea Party newcomers opposed renewal.  Now the three troublesome provisions will move to the Senate, where Rand Paul and other Constitutionalists promise a fierce opposition, arguing that the government, under the cloak of anti-terrorism, is exercising powers unsanctioned by the Constitution.

TEA party convention, Upcoming Luncheon, Top Priority Bills….

I am just amazed at how fast time flies by when you are chasing politicians.

There are many great things happening in Helena, Montana.  The new conservatives there combined with the good old guard are passing critical legislation to enhance our States Rights and reduce the bulging Schweitzer budgets.

This success in Helena could not have happened without your great support and voting conservative last November.

We have lots of work to do to continue working through legislation in Helena for next two months.  The progressive agenda on the left is being pushed hard in committees.  The State, County and local governments are lobbying hard to keep your taxes high, keep your healthcare costs high, limit your individual rights and freedoms, etc.. This is tragic but the true nature of government protecting their extravagant wages and benefits.  We at Montana Shrugged are fighting this push daily and we need your support on the bills as well as generous financial contributions so that we may forge ahead on this successful movement.

We have Montana’s First Annual TEA party Convention to be held in Helena on February 18-19.  Please make every effort to be there. This convention is historic for Montana as very few States have had a State Convention as yet. This puts Montana as leaders in this effort and puts our agenda of limited government, lower budgets, no deficits, lower taxes and prosperity for all on the fast track.

If you do not know already, we now have 5000 email members.  This makes Montana Shrugged one of the largest groups, if not the largest group in America.  This is astounding and we thank you all for jumping on board.  Our voices are being heard loud and clear even though you do not see it in local news.  The movement is huge across America and with your help and contributions; we will make another huge change in 2012.

Historically, a party needs control of all three branches of federal government to make changes and the Democratic Party has been successful a considerable portion of time over past 100 years.  The Republican Party has only had this control for 4 years of that time. Hence we have many costly social programs that are bankrupting our great nation.    For example, President Johnson rammed through his Great Society in the 1960’s which immediately increase federal budget 35%.  These programs now represent over 60% of federal budget and are huge burdens on State budgets.  We need to fix these problems through instilling personal responsibility and accountability into the individual.  We need to improve the free enterprise system as we diminish the size of government as did President Calving Coolidge resulting in the Roaring Twenties.  Our mission is to reinstate the roaring twenties but 100 years later.  Are you with US?

Hell yeswe do..Do we have wimpy federal mandate gorged local governments in thiscountry? Hell Yes we do.As you can see by results of last election change is in motion. The firstgrassroots Tsunami wave hit on November 2 this year and, as you all know,the second wave of a Tsunami is much more ferocious and deadly. Thisdocument can and will rule a free class of people forever in time.December 15th 1791 The Bill of Rights (Ten Amendments)This document further directed the States and Federal government wheretheir responsibilities lay. As we all know, we the people ruled the countryand next to the people the States had independent sovereign rights. Lastly thefederal government was setup with duties to protect borders and directinterstate commerce, to put it in simple terms.So what have we accomplished since those glory days….Many more amendments that limit our freedoms.Activist judges.Corrupt politicians albeit there were undoubtedly some early on.A strong move towards socialist agendas which accelerated in the early1900’s as communism was moving about the globe.We can thank Woodrow Wilson for the Federal Reserve, 16th (the tax)amendment, 17th(take senators and congressmen from state control)Franklin Delano Roosevelt for Social Security and 90% business tax ratesamong other things.Lyndon Johnson for the Great Society or should we say the Great Destructionof Federal Budgets. Welfare, Medicare and Medicaid were started adding35% burden to federal budget. Those programs now represent 55% of federalbudget.And lo and behold, President Obama who gave us Stimulus, Tarp, ARRA,Bailouts, Cash for Clunkers, Obamacare, and multi trillion dollar deficitspending..In 234 years we have managed to take the greatest country from just that to aresounding what? Socialist leaning, ever apologizing, ever criticizingexecutive branch. Excessive deficit spending. Extreme social progams,overzealous government in majority of our lives. Is this what our foundersworked so hard to create. NO.Even worse than that since we entered WWII 68 years ago, we have seen ourcountry go from being worshiped as saviors of world to being laughed andscoffed at today. What is up with that? I say shame on our legislators andPresidents for letting this happen.I can only imagine that not only our forefathers but our grandfathers andfathers who fought valiantly for our freedoms are rolling in their graves ..The teaparty movement came to life in 2009 expressing concerns over thatstate of our country. Nationwide there are thousands of teaparty groups withtens of millions of membersI, personally, thank President Obama for doing the impossible, waking upAmerica. I have been trying for over thirty years.Montana alone has over twenty teaparty groups. We as Montana Shruggedare the largest and most active.The participants in this movement are concerned citizens. Montana TEA Party Condemns Arizona Attack

Montana TEA Party Condemns Arizona Attack BILLINGS- Members of the Montana TEA Party Coalition today issued the following statement condemning the Arizona shooting attack which tragically wounded over a dozen people, including Congresswoman Gabrielle (Gabby) Giffords, and resulted in the deaths U.S District Judge John Roll and several others.The independent members of the Montana TEA Party are saddened and shocked by the tragic shooting which occurred today in Arizona. This type of violence is not representative of the principles of liberty and justice which members of a free society hold so dear. Our sincerest condolences go out to the families of the victims, and our heartfelt prayers to those who are still fighting for their lives. While some have tried to politicize this incident and make it about right or left, Republican or Democrat, such antagonism cheapens the loss of life which is being felt by all Americans, and is an insult to the magnitude of this tragedy. We call on all members of the public, regardless of creed or political affiliation, to lay aside their petty differences and stand resolute in condemnation of such radical and mindless violence.Martin Luther King Jr. once said “At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love; An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. ” Montana’s TEA Party members stand unified, shoulder to shoulder during this difficult time in support of the victims of this senseless tragedy.


“Montana Coordination Act of 2011”

“Putting our people in Montana back to work and encouraging the use of our natural resources.” Here is how this will work.

State Senator Greg Hinkle is sponsoring a bill called, “Montana Coordination Act of 2011” which puts local and Federal governments on an equal negotiating basis. No longer will federal agencies be able to close roads, prevent harvesting our forests, or place wolves in our state without our consent.

This State bill will require local governments to invoke “Coordination” with the federal agencies. They must comply because “Coordination” is mandated in Federal laws.

If there ever was a Bill we need to pass, this is it.

What can you do to help?

Please read the 4-page Report included with this notice.  In it you will find key points you may use to inform others and to testify at the upcoming Senate and House hearings.

What is needed when this bill comes up for a hearing is for you to muster as many people as you can to go to Helena to testify in support of the bill.

Please pay close attention to the workings of our State Government.

Montana Shrugged Announced Major Grassroots Healthcare Repeal Rally

BILLINGS- The Montana Shrugged TEA Party Patriots in Billings announced today that they would be collaborating with TEA Party organizations from around Montana and the nation, Wednesday January 12th at high noon, in what is being billed as a major grassroots demonstration, pushing for the repeal of Obamacare. With the US House voting today to begin the process of repeal and a floor vote expected on full repeal next Wednesday January 12th, the leader of the Montana Shrugged Group, Eric Olsen, is calling on Montanans to come out raise their voices in support of repeal.

“This big government takeover of healthcare will bankrupt our nation” said Olsen in a statement made Friday from his Billings office. “We are calling on everyday Montanans to join concerned citizens and TEA Party groups around the state and nation in joint rallies at the offices of Senator’s Tester, Baucus, Attorney General Steve Bullock, and Governor Schweitzer next Wednesday, January 12th at 12:00 pm. We are demanding that the State of Montana join the lawsuit against this bill, which has already been ruled unconstitutional. And we are calling on Senator’s Tester and Baucus to demand that Majority Leader Harry Reid allow a full floor vote for the repeal bill which passes the House.”

The House of Representatives, which saw large Republican gains in last November’s election, is expected to vote overwhelmingly for repeal with a number of Democrats indicating that they will cross party lines and vote with Republicans. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has vowed to keep the house repeal bill from coming to a vote in the Senate.

Olsen continued, “There are more than 30 Democrats, like Jon Tester, who are up for re-election in 2012. If they think they are going to keep their jobs and vote against repealing this terrible bill, I am afraid that they are sadly mistaken; we the people will make sure of that.”

 


Democrats Still Clueless

This past week, it has become obvious that the Democratic Party in Washington DC is still absolutely clueless about how “We the People” want  America to be, and how we want Congress and the White House to be ran.
The mid-term elections of November 2nd brought a lot of good change to Washington DC politics, and the Republican Party seems to be getting the message that “We the People” want less spending, less taxes, and less government. We will have to wait and see how they actually do their jobs coming up in the next session of Congress before that report card gets it’s final grade though.
On the other hand, Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are still up to their old tricks. Obama just came back from another world tour, which accomplished absolutely nothing except for humiliating him and costing us taxpayers $2 million dollars a day for his trip. The other world leaders see Obama as a joke (which he is) but the downside of this is that it reflects on all of us as a nation. It is a pity that “We the People” of this great country have to put up with him as President for 2 more years.
The Democratic Party emerged from the mid-term elections as even more liberal and progressive than before, as most of the so-called moderate politicians lost their jobs to Republicans. This leaves only the far-left kooks in office, and they will be like lemmings following Pelosi, Reid, and Obama over the cliff to their demise.
In the meantime, we have to make sure that the lame-duck Congress doesn’t cram though any more bad legislation in the next month or so. The Democrats failed to hear the American people who went to the polls, and still have their focus on a socialist agenda.
With the holiday season soon upon us, it is easy to get sidetracked and caught up in the festivities and forget about politics. But remember, that is how we got here in the first place- not paying attention to what Congress was actually doing. Please try and remain attentive to what is going on in Washington DC, and don’t let the lame-duck Democrats leave “We the People” a lump of coal as a Christmas gift year.
